Approximately 25 percent of all toilets leak.  To check yours, remove the tank lid after it has stopped filling.  If there is a leak, you will see it or hear water running.  To test for a silent toilet leak, drop a dye capsule or a few drops of food coloring in the tank.  Wait 10 minutes without flushing.  If dye appears in the bowl, you have a leak.  Replace worn parts with quality parts and retest to insure there's no further leakage.  We can all help ensure an ample, clean water supply for everyone.

      Conservation isn't about rationing water, it's about reducing wasteful practices.  In the average household, water lost through leakage amounts to 9.5 gallons per person.  While  most of the water lost to leaks is attributed to toilet leaks, faucets are another common culpret.  Leaks can account for 10 percent or more of the water AND energy if the source is a hot water faucet.  Leaky faucets should be fixed immediately.  Worn washers or "O" rings can be the cause, but the entire stem assembly may need replacing.Know the faucet brand and take the original part to the supply store to obtain the
